Menstrual Irregularities
Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a comprehensive and personalised approach to managing menstrual irregularities by addressing the root causes of hormonal imbalances, improving blood circulation, and restoring balance to the body. Through acupuncture, herbal medicine, and tailored diet and lifestyle recommendations, TCM supports conditions like dysmenorrhea (period pain), PMS, amenorrhoea, and menorrhagia, helping regulate cycles and alleviate symptoms for improved overall well-being.
Dysmenorrhoea (period pain)
Painful menstruation, commonly due to menstrual cramps, but also linked to conditions like endometriosis or fibroids.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
A set of symptoms, including mood swings, bloating, fatigue, and irritability, that occur in the luteal phase (post-ovulation) and usually resolve with the onset of menstruation.
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
A more severe form of PMS with pronounced emotional and physical symptoms that can interfere with daily life. The hormonal fluctuations associated with PMDD may disrupt ovulation and menstrual regularity, potentially impacting fertility and conception.
Amenorrhoea
The absence of menstruation. Primary amenorrhoea is when menstruation hasn’t begun by age 15, while secondary amenorrhoea occurs when a person who has previously menstruated stops having periods for three or more consecutive months.
Oligomenorrhoea
Infrequent menstruation, where cycles extend beyond the typical range, often occurring less than six to eight times per year.
Menorrhagia
Abnormally heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding. This can interfere with daily life and may indicate underlying issues like hormonal imbalance, fibroids, or bleeding disorders.
Hypomenorrhoea
Very light menstrual bleeding, which may result from hormonal imbalances, certain medications, or structural abnormalities like uterine adhesions.
Metrorrhagia
Irregular bleeding between periods, which may be caused by hormonal fluctuations, infections, or uterine polyps.
Polymenorrhoea
Frequent menstrual cycles that occur less than 21 days apart, often causing challenges with cycle predictability. This irregularity can disrupt ovulation, reducing the chances of conception and implantation.
Anovulatory cycles
Menstrual cycles without ovulation, often resulting in irregular periods. This can be due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid dysfunction, or stress.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
A hormonal disorder that can cause irregular periods, along with other symptoms such as acne, hair growth, and weight gain.
